A real-time tracking platform for a logistics network moving 40,000 shipments a week

The problem

Northlane's dispatch team tracked shipment status through a spreadsheet refreshed every 15 minutes from a batch job. Delays weren't visible until a customer called asking where their shipment was.

The approach

We built an event-sourced tracking layer that reconciles out-of-order carrier webhooks by timestamp rather than arrival order, with a real-time dashboard on top. Twelve-week discovery sprint surfaced the event-ordering problem before it became an architecture liability.

The outcome

Dispatch response time to delayed shipments dropped from an average of 40 minutes to under 5. The reconciliation engine now processes roughly 200,000 events a day.
